PSE’s Engineering Department is looking for an Engineering Specialist in the Customer Constructions Department at its facility located in Tacoma, WA. This position will provide support to the substation maintenance engineering staff while developing, managing and executing PSE’s planned infrared (IR) inspection program. Besides managing of the day-to-day IR program, this position will also develop the sustainable, long-term program. The Engineering Specialist will be working with department personnel to develop maintenance plans, schedules, and triggers for substation equipment and IR scanning. This position will also be evaluating equipment performance and making recommendations to resolve issues and assist with replacement versus repair cost analysis. The Engineering Specialist will be performing IR scanning in the field, analyzing IR scans to assess the condition of the equipment and documenting any necessary follow-up actions. This position will also coordinate any third-party contractors who perform IR inspections. We are looking for someone who will maintain their expertise in the operation of IR test equipment, industry standards for IR scanning, and interpretation of test results. Our Engineering Specialist will be utilizing knowledge of electrical transmission and distribution (T&D) equipment operation to assist in failure analyses.

For the long-term IR program, we are looking for someone to develop a long-term plan and strategy that integrates best practices of maintenance planning, while identifying resources, responsibilities, metrics/ measures. This will include identifying and working with contractor resources to provide a sustainable workforce with the level of service PSE expects. This position will also have responsibility for providing technical support to the substation operations’ group and support staff during periods of heavy construction and maintenance workload. Occasional after-hours response will be necessary; as needed, and during company/system emergencies.

Required Qualifications:

· Demonstrated ability to work independently, and coordinate activities between multiple departments.

· Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and establish effective relationships with personnel possessing a wide variety of educational and employment backgrounds.

· Strong working knowledge of electrical T&D equipment operation and diagnostic testing.

· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, develop and implement new processes.

· Strong working knowledge of MS Office products.

Desired Qualifications:

· Certification or training in infrared inspections (example Level I, II or other verifiable on-the-job training).

· Prior experience with database maintenance tracking programs; such as SAP, Submate or Cascade programs.
