I was absolutely convinced my 2012 Mini Cooper S was destined for the scrapyard or at best a very lowball trade in offer after the Aisin automatic started making this horrible grinding noise whenever I tried to reverse out of my parking spot in Al Qasimia and then it started slipping so badly on the way to work that I could barely make it up the slight incline near the Sharjah Expo without the revs flaring and the whole car shuddering like it was having a panic attack, and every garage I called either said they don't touch Mini gearboxes or quoted me a price that made me consider just setting fire to the car and walking away. I spent a week scrolling through forums and WhatsApp groups feeling pretty hopeless until a lady in a local Mini owners group mentioned she'd used some Mini Cooper Transmission Specialists Sharjah for her Countryman and they'd sorted her valve body issues without trying to sell her a whole new unit, and I figured at that point I had nothing left to lose except maybe a diagnostic fee and the last shred of my dignity if they told me the box was completely cooked. Took it over to Industrial Area 5 on a flatbed expecting the worst and the mechanic actually took the time to show me the worn out clutch packs and the failed solenoid that was causing all the grief, and instead of just swapping in a mystery used transmission from a scrapyard they rebuilt the whole thing with new seals and fresh fluid and recalibrated the adaptations with the proper BMW software, and I picked it up yesterday afternoon and the shifts are so buttery now that I keep checking the dashboard to make sure I'm not dreaming because the car hasn't driven this well since I bought it three years ago. I'm genuinely posting this because I was so close to just selling it for parts and I want anyone else in that same sinking boat with their R56 or R60 to know there's actually a proper fix out there that doesn't involve a second mortgage or learning to live with a gearbox that sounds like a bag of spanners every time you reverse.
