Took my 2013 328i to a specialist because I've been hearing that faint rattling on cold starts that every N20 owner dreads, and sure enough they confirmed the timing chain guides are worn and the chain has stretched enough that it's only a matter of time before things get catastrophic. The quote they gave me was just shy of twenty thousand dirhams for the full timing chain kit, oil pump chain, guides, tensioner, and labour, which is honestly more than half of what the entire car is worth at this point. The car has been paid off for years and I genuinely love driving it, the chassis is tight and the interior is still in great shape, but I'm struggling to justify sinking that much cash into a ten year old four cylinder when I could put that money toward something newer. Then again I look at used car prices right now and what I'd get for selling this as a mechanic's special wouldn't even cover the down payment on something comparable. I found a BMW Garage that's willing to do the job in stages and their quote was slightly more reasonable, but I'm still torn on whether to fix and keep it or cut my losses. Anyone else been in this exact N20 dilemma and which way did you go, and do you regret the decision.
Got quoted twenty thousand for a timing chain job and now I don't know if I should just sell the car
