My name is Salvador, and I work for Fred Colbert.  Using IR to inspect tires of cars or trucks or what ever.... has been done for a long time, but usually for looking at the were patterns on the inside vs. the outside of the tread. which shows if there is a problem with the alignment of the steering.

Also if the tires are over or under inflated will show up as well.  And in the case of formula 1 racing cars, what the ware of the tires is as compared to the competition.

It is all about friction on the surface of the tire verses the road.  Try looking at your own car after you have been driving it.  Compare what it looks like after you have been driving around in circles in one direction as compared to the other, for example and see what you see.

You can also look at the temp. of the breaks and see if they are over heating as well.
